Updated 8/16/01!! The band has returned
from its very successful stay at White Mountain. We are already
in better shape than we were for our first few performances in
the past few years. I am pleased to styate that this year's grand
march-off winner is Josh Miles, the Drill Instructor of the trumpet
section. The runner-up is Tiffany Underwood, who is one of the
Guard Captains this year.
Coming Soon!! Once school begins, I will scan in photos
from away camp and upload them to the site. If you have any photos
that you would like to be put up, please feel free to give them
to me to scan.

Coming Soon!! Thursday, August 2 is when rookie camp starts.
They will be joined on Monday, August 6 by the remainder of the
band. On Saturday, August 11, the band departs for White Mountain
Camp for away camp.

Updated 6/20/01!! I have added information regarding the
student leadership positions for the upcoming school year. The
list of leaders for each group can be found at that group's page.
-Leif
Updated 6/14/01!! School is out, but that just means I now
have time to actually update this. A lot has been happening since
my last update in April. At the Spring Trip, the entire music
department did incredibly well. We won both the Best Overall Instrumental
and Best Overall Choral!. Since then, we have had the spring concerts,
which went very well. In addition, the Wind Ensemble performed
at the graduation ceremony and the Jazz Ensemble at the senior
awards ceremony. Lastly, the student leaders for the 2001 marching
season have been chosen. Next time I update, I'll have more about
these topics for you.
-Leif
Updated 4/21/01!! I know that it has been a while since I
last updated and I apologize for that, but I have updated many
sections, including those for the Wind
Ensemble, and the Symphonic
Band. I have also added a section regarding this year's spring
trip to Virginia Beach!
Finally, I have been able to obtain an audio clip from a concert.
To find out more about it, go here.

Updated 3/18/01!! On Friday March 16, both the Symphonic
Band and the Wind Ensemble performed at the Howard County Band
Festival at Glenelg High School. I am proud to announce that both
groups got overall Excellent ratings from the judges. Once I receive
the specific ratings, I will post them up here as well.

Updated 2/22/01!! Well, much has happened ince the last
update. To begin with, there was a Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab
concert a few weeks ago. They performed very well. There was also
the Mad Jazz Concert, at which the Jazz Labs performed. Though
I was not in attendance, I have heard that they did a great job.
The Jazz Ensemble also performed in the East Coast Jazz Festival
recently, and they reportedly got great reviews.
After a long wait, this site has finally been updated!!! I
had been planning on making this semi-overhaul for awhile, but
never could find the time. I have added some new sections to the
site, including a news archive, a section with music clips, aand
a page for the various jazz groups. As of now, these sections
are essentially empty, but I will soon have much more located
in those places. I hope you enjoy these new areas.
-Leif
Updated 1/2/01!! The auditions for the 2001-2002 Wind
Ensemble have been held recently. The list of those who will be
in it next year can be found here.
Winter Concert Part 2!!! This is a bit late in getting
added, but the second part of this program was great. Theremaining
choirs and the orchestra performed first. The last group to perform
was the Wind ensemble, which once again put on a good show.
-Leif
Updated 12/11/2000!! I'm afraid that I don't have much
more in the way of photographs coming in anytime soon. That is,
of course, unless any of you have some that you would like to
see added to the photo archives.
Winter Concert Part 1!!! The first installment of the 2000
Winter Concert was a big success! The Women's Choir and the Orchestra
had great shows. The final group to perform was the Symphonic Band. I must say that they are
a huge step up from what they were last year. It was so good that
I'm haviing trouble even describing it. Great job!!!! The second
installment of te concert is tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.
-Leif
Updated 12/2/2000!! The photos from our last home game are now up. Soon, I hope
to have songs from last year's Jazz Ensemble's performance at
the Mall in Columbia. Due to file size constraints, I may only
be able to provide clips from them, but I will try to make as
many as possible available.
Tiny Tots Take 3!!!! Our final concert of this series was
today. There was a large crowd and even a reporter for the Howard
County Times there to write another article.
-Leif
Updated 11/30/2000!! I apologize again for not updating
this recently. I had some problems with uploading files and then
I went out of town. I should be getting the photos from the last
football game up soon, along with any more informatiopn I receive
in other areas.
Tiny Tots!!!! Our first two Tiny Tots concerts were sucesses!
There was even a story about it in the Baltimore Sun.
-Leif
Updated 11/17/2000!! I apologize for the delay in putting
this information up, but I have been experimenting with more efficient
methods of updating the site. Tomorrow is the U.S. Navy Band FREE
concert at the high school. It begins at 7:30 PM. If I receive
a program for it, I will put the information from it on the site.
Also, I have added a section for the Tiny Tots Concerts.
-Leif
Updated 11/6/2000!! The Homecoming 2000 photos are up,
like I said they would be. Also, on the menu bar now, is the link
to the River Hill Bandstand message boards, the River Hill Bandstands.
As of this time, there are three forums there:
The Band Room a community forum for just about anything
to be discussed
The Griping Session a feedback forum for this site
The Suggestion Box a forum for making suggestions or comments
about band, especially marching band.
Within the next week, I hope to upload more photos and add a section
for the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Labs.
-Leif
Updated 11/5/2000!! I apologize for the Homecoming photos
not being up yet. My connection provider was very busy and was
taking a long time to upload the files, time I just didn't have
on Friday. They should be up today, unless the line is tied up
again. Soon, I'll be loading up photos from our last game on Saturday,
November 4.
-Leif
Updated 11/3/2000!! I'm in the process of fixing bugs
with the new format. The Homecoming 2000 photos are up. Also,
the last remnants of the old format are almost completely gone,
if they aren't fully. Until the message boards are working, if
you have any comments or suggestions for the site, then please
e-mail me at this
address.
-Leif
Updated 10/27/2000!! The new format is online!!! I'll
still be fixing any errors that arise and adding new features,
but this is generally what the site will look like from now on.
However, we plan on changing the name, especially since marching
season is almost over. If you have any suggestions for a name,
please contact me at leifae@yahoo.com.
-Leif
Updated 10/25/2000!! The group photo of the band is up
on the site! Click here to go see it
The Overhaul Continues!!! I have spent much of this
afternoon trying to get the basics for the new sidebar working.
So far, I'm not having very much success. If I can get it working
soon, it will be only a matter of time before the change is applied
to the many pages on this site.
-Leif
Updated 10/24/2000!! The group photo of the band
should be online within the next few days. Along with that should
be some photos from one the home football games earlier on in
the season.
The Overhaul has begun!!! As you probably noticed, there
is now a cover page for the Virtual Nest. That page may stay or
go, but its here for now. There is still much left to do, and
we will continue to keep you updated on this.
-Leif
Updated 10/22/2000!! Much has happened recently. On Saturday,
October 21, the band competed in a competition in Queen Anne County.
The band scored very well. It earned a 79.3 from the judges and
took home the third place trophy for Group 3. In addition to this,
the spirit of the band returned after a long absence. Most of
the band was very enthusiastic about doing so well. This was a
remarkable improvement over the band's score of 56.7 at the James
Madison University Competition just a week before.
Big plans on the horizon for the Virtual Nest!!! The
webmasters are planning a complete overhaul of the site. They
will continue to work on it, but it may be a while before the
overhaul is complete. Alec and I will continue to update you on
the situation.
-Leif
Updated 10/5/2000!! The Marching Hawks Virtual Nest comes
under new leadership! Leif Ellingson and Alec Colvin have taken
over the updating duties of this site. In addition, this site
will focus on multimedia items, such as pictures, and movies.
Dayton Daze Parade photos are now available!!! Click
here for
the photos from the recent parade!
